About DUNES: A Legacy in Motion

“50 Years. Same Spirit.”

I Started This When I Was 12.

My dad backed me. Now, I’m backing the next generation

Introduction:
In 1974, I was just a 12-year-old kid with a skateboard and a dream. My father, Pops, believed in me even when skateboarding was still a mere idea for many. He backed me, and together, we built something out of passion, craft, and a love for motion. Fifty years later, we’re still here, and that same spirit of belief drives everything we do.

The Early Days - Built by a Kid

A legacy in motion I started this when I was a young boy. My dad backed me, now it’s my turn.In 1976 (not 74’) Fifty Years later We’re back with that same spirit….The early Days = Built by a young boy and the love of a father. Something bigger, (Would) be created. The revival, our mission, How we give back Fifty years of belief, – all good

The Revival: Not a Comeback. A Continuation.

This isn’t about a brand trying to dominate the market or compete with local shops. It’s about amplifying what already exists. DUNES isn’t here to overshadow your local skate shop; we are here to elevate it. We sell decks and tees, but we urge you to buy your trucks, wheels, and safety gear locally. Support your community, your skate parks, and the local scene. We’re not here to compete; we’re here to strengthen and support what already exists.

The Early Days - Built by a Kid

Skateboarding wasn’t the global phenomenon it is today; it was a small, niche hobby. I started young, just a kid, with big dreams. My first skateboard was a humble, hand-crafted deck — a slab of mahogany cut right in our garage. Pops was there every step of the way, not just funding boards, but investing in the belief that something bigger could be created. We weren’t just building a brand; we were building a community. My crew, my family, and the early days of skateboarding were all about trust, friendship, and pure, unadulterated passion.

The Lesson Pops Taught Me

Pops didn’t just teach me to build boards or bikes; he taught me to build belief. He believed in community, in showing up when no one was watching, and in doing things the right way. He taught me that grit matters, that failures are part of the journey, and that the love for something is shown through action, not just words. These lessons weren’t just about running a business; they were about life. Now, it’s my turn to pay it forward and amplify the same values he instilled in me.

Our Mission: Amplify the Local Scene

DUNES isn’t built on competition. It’s built on community. Our mission is clear:

  • We invest in kids.
  • We help local scenes grow.
  • We encourage mentorship.
  • We keep skateboarding human.

Our philosophy is simple: We’re not here to compete. We’re here to amplify.

How We Give Back

At DUNES, we don’t just talk about giving back — we do it.

  • Sponsoring local kids who show promise in skateboarding.
  • Supporting park builds to make our local spots better.
  • Donating products to the community.
  • Offering mentorship and guidance to the next generation.
  • Highlighting local crews on our site, ensuring that the spotlight stays where it belongs — on the community.

Fifty Years of Belief

It all started with a 12-year-old kid with a dream, and a father who believed in him. That belief is still rolling today. Fifty years later, we continue the legacy that began in our garage, believing in the future, believing in the community, and, most importantly, believing in the next generation of skateboarders.
